Bent Persson
Bent Persson

Internationally recognized trumpeter, cornetist and arranger.

Bent Persson regularly tours in USA, Australia, Japan, and all over Europe, often as soloist. He has played or recorded with artists like Eva Taylor, Maxine Sullivan, Benny Carter, Dickie Wells and Doc Chetham a.o. Persson joined Kustbandet in 1974 and also plays with Harlem Jazz Camels, Swedish Jazz Kings, Classic Jazzband and Hot Jazz Trio.

His first band was Stockholm Stompers, then he played with Maggie's Blue Five and the Weatherbird Jazzband in the 70's. Studied economics but changed into music teaching. As part of it he is now raising a young vintage big band, called Jazzin' Topzies.
His recordings of Louis Armstrong's 50 Hot Choruses of 1927 have received world-wide acclaim.

He's also teaching classic jazz at Visingsö and in Lenk, Switzerland, as well as Jazz History at the Royal Academy of Music.

Fredrik Olsson
Bent Persson

Solid first trumpet player, taking the role of a Russel Smith or an Arthur Whetsol.

His tone, though, reminds mostly of the great Joe Smith. Also a member of the symphony orchestra Filialen, Fredrik studies trumpet for Urban Eriksson at the Stockholm Opera.

Olsson has been a member of the Royal Horse Guards (1991) and can still at times be seen playing on a horse, sometimes at military Tatoos and the like.

Bo "Julle" Juhlin
Bent Persson

Formal education at the Royal Academy on tuba.

Playing sousaphone and bass trombone in the band, Juhlin has been on tour all over the world in various groups. Juhlin is admired by several well-known musicians for his tone and sense of timing. Bo did also perform with the Swedish Radio Jazz Group (in the 70's). He is also an excellent double-bass player.

Jens "Jesse" Lindgren

Hot trombonist, sweet vocalist, who never wants to "grow up" from the Jazz Age. Mostly the M.C. of the band.

Jens "Jesse" Lindgren was born on the 19 of July in 1945 in Stockholm. Started playing the banjo in a band called Jazzgossarna (1961) and the trombone in the Eagle Band (1962). Started playing in Kustbandet in 1964.

Favourits: 1920- and 30´s style-forming trombonists as: J.C. Higginbotham, Dicky Wells, Miff Mole, Tricky Sam Nanton, Jimmy Harrison och New Orleans-players as Kid Ory and Jim Robinson.

Has played in/plays with Maggie's Blue Five, Jesse's New Orleans Band, Classic Jazz Band plus combinations with Bent Persson, Eddie Bruhner and many more Stockholm band leaders.

Has produced a couple of hundred jazz programs for the Swedish Radio, a. o. Jesses Jazzbar (1982-90). From 1980 Head of the Swedish Jazz Archives. Since 1987 a member of the Swedish Jazz Academy and has a lot of other cultural connections. Asked for as M.C. on different occasions.

Göran Eriksson

Elegant altosax and clarinet player also arranging - a true scholar in the field of classic jazz.

Göran's career started in Paris in the 60's where he played banjo, later turning to the alto. His uncanny sense of choosing the right tempos for the band, and setting it off is remarkable.

His style is formed on Benny Carter, Charlie Holmes and Johnny Hodges with melodic influences from Lester Young. He's a musician's musician, sought after by the best American, French and Norwegian (and, of course, Swedish) musicians, also on the banjo.

The large collection of 78's he's gathered covers most of the Classic Jazz period (1920-42)

John Högman

A swinging tenor and baritone saxophonist with great musical scope, doubling on clarinet.

John Högman was born in 1953 in Stockholm and grew up in Uppsala. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. He also has played with many well-known musicians like Mel Lewis, Willie Cook and Nat Pierce.

Högman has his own quartet and also plays in other bands like
Good Morning Blues and Nogenja. His speciality is playing in the vein of Lester Young. John is also teaching jazz at Visingsö.

Klas Toresson

Young saxophone player from Stockholm. Apart from Kustbandet, Klas can be heard in bands like Klas Toresson Trio and Horn Please.

Christer "Kaka" Ekhé

Unique singer and percussionist who has carefully studied New Orleans drumming, exclusively playing the genuine N.O. drum kit.

Started out on cornet as one of the original members of Kustbandet. Ekhé can also be seen playing in other bands like Swingsters and Antonia's Harmony Serenaders.

Kaka is a very original character and singer, often pleasing the crowd with remarkably outstanding vocal refrains. He collects old drumkits and chinese tom-toms. And also has a special interest in Caribbean folk music. At times M.C.-ing (with a special, widely acclaimed humour).

Claes Skoglund

Swinging piano player and clever arranger.

Skoglund lives in Uppsala, teaching music at Vik's Folk High-School and the jazz summer courses at Visingsö. He is heard as vocalist with the band on festive occasions
(N.B. The Nobel Prize Party).

Claes is also one of the most contributing arrangers in the band. His work is very appreciated among musicians and audience alike.

Göran Lind

One of the best New Orleans style bass players around. He is one of the few who today plays on gut strings and without amplifiers.

Göran Lind was born in Örebro in 1950 and grew up in Bromma, a western surburb of Stockholm. There he got his musical training in some of the best traditional jazz orchestras of Sweden. Today, Göran can be heard playing in bands like Classic Jazzband and Stockholm Swing All Stars, and has toured around the world and performed at festivals in the USA, Germany, France, Italy, UK, India, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan.

He also has recorded and performed with artists like Benny Waters (who used to call him "Little Pops"), Maxine Sullivan, Benny Carter, Jabbo Smith and Dickie Wells among others.

Hans "Rosten" Gustafsson

One of the original members of the band - playing banjo, sometimes being a gentleman, playing the four-string guitar (with great swing).

Many jazz musicians use to say that a good banjo player should be felt but not heard. If that's true, "Rosten" is the perfect one. He is also responsible for the administration and economy of the band.
