As a child Fredrik Olsson was one of Bent Persson’s trumpet students and started at the age of twelve playing in one of Bent’s jazz orchestras. He has also studied trumpet academically. His military service was in the mounted Royal Guards and he kept on performing on horseback at several ceremonies. His interest in trumpet playing comes from his father. Fredrik has the perfect trumpet sound for the kind of big band music played in the twenties and thirties. His tone is as beautiful as the one heard from the Russel brothers, Joe Smith in the Fletcher Henderson band or Arthur Whetsol in Duke Ellington’s. Beside Kustbandet Fredrik plays with The Royal Blue Melodians, Jazzin’ Topsies and Filialen Symphony Orchestra.
