Alto sax, clarinet
Klas Toresson has studied saxophone and clarinet at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. But basically he feels that “the most important education I had was through playing with and letting me be inspired by good jazz musicians”. Klas, originally from Sandviken 200 km north of Stockholm, has a great versatility in styles and can improvise solos that sounds authentical in both traditional and more modern jazz styles, without tampering with his musical integrity. Beside Kustbandet, Klas plays with, among others, ”The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra”, Claes Janson, Peter Asplund, Bertil Strandberg, Göran Strandberg Nonett, Lisa Björänge Kvintett and in the band of his own. Among his greatest influences Klas mentions Lester Young, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, Louis Armstrong, Don Byas and Miles Davis. DIG Jazz Magazine describes Klas’ playing in these words: “ You experience a clear maturity in his music – free of stereotypes and spectacular shallowness. The clear straight tone beems out an authority that has no too apparent musical role models…..What Klas achieves is something you will return to for a long time ahead”.
